Soil testing & analytical laboratory under soil health & fertility project
JVES in its initial years got a lot of support from the Dept. of Agriculture, Govt. of West Bengal to promote Sustainable Agriculture and Organic farming. It was during the early phase of its diversification that JVES was awarded the Bio Village programme in 2009 followed immediately by the award of a Mobile Soil Testing Laboratory which later got converted to a Static Soil Testing Laboratory at Siliguri.
Since 2016 onwards JVES has been assisting the Department of Agriculture, and Govt. of West Bengal to analyze and provide Soil Health Card data for the farmers of Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling district. During the year 2018 JVES also assisted in testing the overwhelming Soil samples at the Uttar Dinajpur district as well. There was a timid period during the Covid-19 situation but the scheme got a much-needed breather in the middle of 2022 with the launching of the Soil Health & Fertility scheme by the DAC&FW, Govt. of India, for which our laboratory has started receiving samples from the Dept. of Agriculture, Govt. of West Bengal for analysis of the same. To date, JVES has analyzed and provided more than 50000 SHCs to the farmers of these districts.
JVES plan to strengthen the laboratory further and equip it with modern analytical instruments and accredit under the NABL certification scope. We also plan to have pilot-scale labs with our FPOs network to provide technical and analytical support coupled with scientific recommendations on plant nutrition and plant protection needs of the farmers.
